Budapest, Hungary

Szia or Hello Budapest. Weekend trip in Hungarian style.

The trip to Budapest was kinda spontaneous as I decided to make a very nice present to my fiancé on his birthday. Tickets were quite cheap (120 £ each return and direct flight from UK, Luton to Budapest) but anyway I spent some time on research for the cheapest ones. Flight took around 2h and 25 minutes. I also pre-booked apartments and actually we were 15 minutes distance from main touristic sights as we were almost in centre of the city. In Budapest they are not using Uber which I was very surprised about as it was suspended in Hungary due to government legislation that makes impossible for it to operate. However you still are able to use Taxify app or we chose miniBUD shuttle service miniBUD which cost both of us 22 Eur (it will take you to the requested destination and also can book trip back to airport if needed). The cheapest option would be public bus service from airport 100E (around 2.80 Eur).

All the beauty is in the heart of the city and around it. It is so beautiful and very spacious. As comparing to Prague I could’t feel that crowd and never ending tourist groups, as might be, that all main touristic objects to see were in quite a distance and there were options to walk or take a hop on hop off bus tour. The streets and bridges are wide which I was happy about. The city is very beautiful, gorgeous and with amazing views. Highly recommended to see it! No regrets 😊

You will love it – We loved every bit of this magical city. Please see Budapest Castle district, Fishermans Bastion, have a glass of local Tokay wine in the small cafes up there or cup/cone of ice cream which is very delicious there and enjoy the beautiful view on the city.P1030149

But…the most spectacular view is at night time. Like a fairy tail. I believe the best views are from Gellert hill and Castle district.

There are loads of options to have a trip with boats like party boat, dinner on boat, just a trip on Danube river with boat etc.

Budapest is buzzing on night time – centre is full of people and everyone enjoying themselves in cafes , restaurants, bars, open air bars and clubs. Our favourite places were Aquarium club which was open air bar/club next to Budapest eye, Vault 51 – Gamer bar (my fiancé was very glad that we went there as he is passionate gamer) and the drinks are nice there, Tibi Atya Fröccskocsmàja – bar/ club ( I loved the idea of plastic buckets with wine 😀 ). I know there are more and more places to go but for sure next time when we will visit Budapest again as we didn’t have so much time to see everything and it’s good – as we will have a reason to come back again.

Food – my advise to everyone – don’t choose first restaurants you see. The best places to eat are the smallest ones and most of the time hidden between small streets. Our favourite ones were Drum cafe (langosh and goulash bar) and  Ildího Konyhája – home made food , very traditional design and owners are providing with the greatest service. Of course you must try Goulash soup – it’s very good. From popular and interesting places you can visit For Sale pub/restaurant – prices are higher but portions are massive ! And the place is just unique – even we decided to leave a note. Before you go there – do a reservation as it’s on high demand on lunch and dinner time.

Average price for the food overall can be 5-10 Eur/pp. For a pint of beer from 1 Eur and up. I think it’s very good price comparing to other European countries.

Bathes and Spas. I think this is the first thing whats coming up when you start to talk about Budapest. Have you visited one of the public bathes/spas? Yes, we did and it was great! My favourite one is Gellert Spa – very beautiful and majestic. Loved the thermal pools. If you want to save some money – you can take your own towel, head cap and use small locker but we took everything there – even own locker room where to change. Would suggest to take also your own flippers – it’s more hygienic and you wont slip. Second Spa which we visited was Széchenyi Thermal bath. We were a bit disappointed – don’t know really, why, but it didn’t met our expectations as Gellert Spa did. But I believe that on winter time it’s very good as outside temperature are on minuses and you can enjoy warm thermal pools outside.
